Every year Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will conducts Common Admission Test or CAT for admission to Management courses at IIMs.
Besides IIMs there are more than 120 Management Institutes which accept CAT score for admitting students. In 2009 more than 2 lakhs students appeared for the CAT Exam.
The testing window presently has been extended to make available students a wider range of dates. We will decrease the number of CAT centers percity to ascertain a lot better student-experience. About Common Admission Test (CAT)
Common entrance test is the written examination in which you have to answer the optional question answers that is MCQ (Multiple choice questions).
The questions are available in different categories like grammar, general knowledge, mathematics etc.
It is the common entrance test for getting seats in Master courses like master of computer application (MCA), Master of business Application (MBA) and for having management degree. This is a test held yearly for the admission to the Post-graduate courses and many of the other Programs in management courses of several management institutes in India.
For getting the admission in one of the best institute the CAT is considered to be the major requirement. And on the basis of the results of CAT, the eligible students are short listed and called for interviews. CAT has become one of the most competitive exams to judge the efficiency of the students willing to develop their career in business administration or say business world.
A student holding bachelor degree can only apply for CAT examination. And student must have at least 50% in bachelor degree and 45% for SC/ST students. The students who have given the final year exam and are waiting for the results can also give the CAT examination and they have to produce a certificate signed by their principal in which it is mentioned that you are currently in final year of that college.
It’s not at all hard to obtain the CAT application form. As it can be obtained from banks even say for example an axis bank. IIM which is one of the best institutions of India also provides CAT application form. The cost of the form is 1300 rupees only.
Many of the coaching classes are available for the preparation of CAT. Classes are providing the materials for the preparation.

The 11th five year plan of India proposed 7 new IIMs by the end of 2012. Of these, the government has announced plans to establish 6. These IIMs will come up in the cities/states of Ranchi (To be operational from session 2010-11), Rohtak (To be operational from session 2010-11), Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu.
