Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs)Common Admission Test (CAT) 2010
The Indian Institutes of Management will conduct Common Admission Test (CAT) during a 20 day testing window between Wednesday, 27 October 2010 and Wednesday, 24 November 2010. CAT is conducted by IIMs as a pre-requisite for admission to various management programmes of IIMs. These programmes are:
A. Post Graduate Programmes in Management (PGPM)
IIM Ahmedabad
IIM Bangalore
IIM Calcutta
IIM Indore
IIM Kozhikode
IIM Lucknow
IIM Ranchi
IIM Rohtak
IIM Shillong
B. Fellow Programmes in Management (FPM) (Equivalent to PhD) of IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcuta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, and IIM Lucknow.
Eligibility: The candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the SC/ST/DA categories).

Sale of CAT 2010 Vouchers:
The CAT 2010 Vouchers can be obtained from the selected branches of Axis Bank during the period from Monday, 30 August 2010 to Monday 27th September 2010 for Rs.1400/- (Rs.700/- for SC/ST candidates).

Registration for CAT:
On purchasing the CAT 2010 Voucher, prospective candidates must log on to the website www.catiim.in to register for CAT 2010. Registration window opens on 30 August 2010 and closes on 30 September 2010.
Cat Score: A candidates CAT score card will be available to the candidates at the website www.catiim.in from 12th January 2011. Candidates must retain a print-out of their score card.

About Common Admission Test (CAT)
Getting admission to one of the six IIM’s is not that easy. There are numerous challenges that are faced by the students who have to get admission in the IIM’s as well as in the other top b-schools.
Common Admission Test or CAT is one of the common entrance exams taken by the students who want admission in Indian Institute of Management at Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Bangalore and Ahemdabad. Besides the admission in IIMs, CAT also gives students the opportunity to get admission in some of the top b-schools such as MICA, S.P Jain Institute and others based on the percentile achieved in CAT entrance examination.
This entrance examination comprises of four sections that includes Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability as well as Problem Solving. There are multiple choice questions that have to be answered and for every correct answer one mark is allotted. Also there is negative marking in the competitive examination wherein for each wrong answer 1/4th of a mark is taken away.
This two hour test is the first step for the students who want to get admission to the IIM’s. After the declaration of the results, the short listed students are called for Group Discussion and personal interview. The scores of the entrance exam are comparative and the calculations are made on the percentile basis for the distinguished sections of examination as well as for the total.
CAT is one of the entrance tests that demands from the students the fundamental knowledge and also expertise in concepts. This exam is conducted once in a year on the second Sunday of December. It is essential for the candidate to be a graduate or the students appearing in their final year can also apply. Like other competitive tests, CAT has a focus on testing the basic qualities that are required by the managers which basically includes the passion to work hard, quick thinking power, smartness in availing the best alternate and most importantly determination or firmness.
